UV Safety Month

You know how important it is to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays, but did you know you also need to protect your eyes? At Kopolow & Girisgen Doctors of Optometry in Las Vegas, our optometrists are taking the opportunity to use UV Safety Month to educate our community about the importance of keeping their eyes safe from the sun.

Why UV Protection Matters

When your eyes get too much exposure to sunlight, significant problems can result. This can range from general eye discomfort and pain to problems as serious as cataracts and macular degeneration. Proper sun protection protects the delicate skin of your eyelids and cornea from the sun's harmful rays.

Keeping Your Eyes Safe From UV Rays

When it comes to protecting your eyes, your best bet is a pair of sunglasses that blocks 100% of UV light. If you already wear prescription eyeglasses to aid your vision, talk to your optometrist about clip-on sunglasses. These lenses “clip-on” to the front of your frames, which provides flexibility for people wanting to wear both eyeglasses and sunglasses.

The color of your sunglass lens is actually irrelevant to sun protection. We can suggest a number of stylish sunglass lenses to meet your UV protection needs.

While wearing sunglasses is important, it's also a good idea to wear a hat on sunny days to further protect your eyes and skin. Hats are great choices for kids who struggle to keep sunglasses on.

Protect Your Eyes With UV Protection Sunglasses

If you're ready to keep your eyes healthy during UV safety month, or you simply need to get your yearly vision exam, Kopolow & Girisgen Doctors of Optometry in Las Vegas is here to help. Call 702-341-7254 for our LensCrafters locations or 702-452-2020 for our PearleVision locations. We look forward to helping you keep your eyes safe.
