Glaucoma is a common eye condition among older men and women. Most people that suffer from this condition will experience it in its most common form, which is primary open-angle glaucoma, A.K.A. POAG. One way to prevent POAG is to fill your diet with green, leafy vegetables. In a medical study spanning two years, participants that regularly consumed green, leafy vegetables were at a lower risk for POAG, by as much as 30 percent. The reason for this is because this type of vegetable has a sufficient amount of nitric oxide, which keeps your blood flowing into the optic nerve and keeps your eyes physically strong. Raw vegetables and eggs are also recommended for good eye health. Eggs help you absorb the carotenoids found in the raw vegetables. Carotenoids have been proven to be effective in maintaining normal vision as well.
Oily fish such as salmon is also recommended to help keep your eyes healthy. Their omega 3 fatty acids are known to lower the risk of suffering from macular degeneration, a condition that is often associated with aging. Brightly colored fruits and vegetables are often essential to maintaining your vision. They include antioxidants that fight against the formation of cataracts.
